Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs issued a statement on social media thanking all participants in the 15th Saeima election, including members of election commissions, organizers, and those who ensured the vote proceeded safely and smoothly. He acknowledged that improvements are needed, including in legislation, but stressed that overall a large and complex task had been accomplished.

The president congratulated the political forces and candidates who secured seats in the new Saeima, while thanking those who fell short of entering parliament for their participation in the process. He noted that these parties still have supporters who found their ideas and programs worthwhile, adding that there is potential to build on that support and win over a wider circle of voters, since the next political cycle is not far off.

Concern over turnout

At the same time, Rinkēvičs described the relatively low voter turnout in this election as concerning. He suggested that many voters may not have believed in their ability to influence political processes, and that the offerings of political parties failed to resonate with them. The president warned that disillusionment and indifference pose a danger to the democratic foundations and future of the country, urging politicians, experts, and journalists to reflect seriously on this once post-election emotions settle. He added that there is no single magic solution to the problem, including for himself.

Rinkēvičs expressed hope that the newly elected 15th Saeima will, through its work, significantly strengthen public trust in government, so that considerably more citizens take part in the next, 16th Saeima election. He noted that in a month Latvia will begin a new chapter in its development, wishing the country's representatives success in building a better and safer Latvia together.
