Riot delays team voice chat launch for League of Legends
Riot Games has postponed the rollout of team voice chat in League of Legends with no new timeline given, just two weeks after announcing the feature for patch 26.20.

Riot Games has pushed back the long-awaited launch of team voice chat in League of Legends, just two weeks after telling players the feature would arrive in select regions with the 26.20 patch. The game's developer team announced the delay on social media, giving no new target date for release.
For players who have waited since the game's release 17 years ago for this option, the update offers little comfort. Riot said only that the decision was made to meet the quality standard its community deserves, without specifying what problems triggered the postponement.
Possible reasons behind the delay
While Riot did not give an official explanation, a few likely factors have been pointed to. League of Legends has long carried a reputation for toxic player behavior, something Riot has worked in recent years to improve. It is possible that planned moderation safeguards for voice chat, such as requiring players to reach a minimum Honor level as proof of good conduct, were not functioning as intended.
Another possible complication involves the planned "voice skin" feature, which would have let players alter how their voice sounds to teammates — a feature that may have introduced technical or moderation challenges of its own.
Despite the setback, Riot indicated that development of the feature remains a priority and that work on it continues, even though no new release window has been set.
