Declan Rice is likely to be available to start for England in their World Cup last-16 match against Mexico on Sunday, despite an ongoing injury concern. The Arsenal midfielder has been managing a neural problem affecting his hamstring and lower back. He was substituted in stoppage time during England's 2-1 victory over DR Congo in the round of 32.

After that game, manager Thomas Tuchel revealed Rice's condition. "I asked him. He said: 'I can do it for the team but I am in terrible pain.' When Declan tells you he is in terrible pain then you know he cannot take it any more," Tuchel stated.

While Rice is expected to be fit to start, doubts remain over Reece James' availability. The Chelsea right-back has missed two matches due to a hamstring injury. It is understood that James has not yet returned to full training ahead of the Mexico game, which is scheduled for 18:00 local time on Sunday (01:00 BST on Monday), though the kick-off could be moved due to weather conditions.

Back-up right-back Jarell Quansah, who missed the win over DR Congo with an ankle issue, has stepped up his recovery, but it is not yet known if he will be available for Sunday's fixture.
