Oil Refinery in Russia's Ryazan Burns After Drone Attack, Social Media Channels Report
A fire has broken out at an oil refinery in the Russian city of Ryazan after a drone attack overnight, according to social media channels. The plant produces fuel, including jet fuel and diesel, also for Russia's Defence Ministry.

An oil refinery in the Russian city of Ryazan is on fire after an overnight drone attack on 5 November, according to social media channels cited by the Ukrainian outlet Ukrainska Pravda. These include Astra, Exilenova+ and Supernova+. The plant supplies aviation fuel and diesel to the Russian army fighting in Ukraine, so damage could affect military fuel supplies.
What the channels report
Around 2 a.m. local time, a drone alert was declared in Ryazan and the surrounding region. Soon afterwards, residents began reporting numerous explosions, air defence activity and the noise of drones.
The Supernova+ channel published a video of a fire at the Ryazan oil refinery. An open-source intelligence (OSINT) analyst from Astra confirmed that it is this refinery that is burning. The source text contains no official confirmation.
About the refinery
The refinery is one of the largest oil-processing enterprises in Russia and is part of the Rosneft group. According to open data, it is located in the city's Southern Industrial Hub and has a capacity of roughly 17–18 million tonnes of crude oil per year.
The plant makes motor gasoline, diesel, aviation fuel, fuel oil and bitumen. It supplies fuel to Moscow and Russia's central regions and also produces fuel for the Russian Ministry of Defence. In 2014, the company reported developing experimental batches of motor gasoline for the ministry, meeting the requirements of military equipment. The plant also makes jet-engine kerosene, including TS-1, which is used by military aviation.
