Rohan Dennis, Who Killed His Wife, May Face Jail for Violating Suspended Sentence
Australian cyclist Rohan Dennis, who killed his wife and Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins in 2023 and initially avoided prison, may now be imprisoned after being caught driving while disqualified.

Multiple world champion and two-time Olympic medalist Rohan Dennis has come under renewed legal scrutiny. In June 2025, police caught him driving near the site where his wife Melissa Hoskins died in late 2023. At the time of his arrest, his two young children were also in the car.
In 2024, Dennis received a 17-month suspended prison sentence for causing his wife's death, with a two-year good behavior period and a five-year driving ban. The judge explicitly warned that any breach of the driving ban would result in imprisonment.
Dennis pleaded guilty to violating the driving prohibition. His lawyer confirmed the guilty plea. Dennis remained silent during the hearing and quickly left the court afterward, ignoring journalists' questions. The next hearing is scheduled for September.
Background: On December 30, 2023, the couple argued over a kitchen renovation. Dennis decided to drive off, but Hoskins jumped onto the car hood and grabbed the door handle, trying to stop him. Dennis continued driving until she fell and was run over. She died in hospital the next day. Originally charged with dangerous driving causing death, Dennis later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of creating potential harm in aggravating circumstances.
Last year, Dennis sparked public outrage by posting a photo of his black Porsche with the caption, "What an absolute weapon." He also referred to his children as "absolute weapons" on social media. South Australia's Victims' Rights Commissioner Sarah Quick called the posts deeply offensive, reflecting a complete lack of understanding of the lasting impact of his actions.
Dennis and Hoskins met during the 2012 London Olympics and married in 2018. They were considered Australia's cycling "golden couple" and had two children. Hoskins was a world champion in team pursuit in 2015, while Dennis has won multiple Olympic medals and six world titles.
