Latvian Guard Roberts Bērziņš Moves to Iceland, Joins KR Reykjavik

Latvian basketball player Roberts Bērziņš is changing teams and heading to Iceland. On Tuesday, KR Reykjavik announced on Instagram that they have reached an agreement with the 25-year-old guard for the next season.

KR head coach Jakob Sigurarson stated that Bērziņš will fit well into the Icelandic league and its style of basketball. The coach praised the Latvian's shooting and athletic abilities, as well as his versatility to play multiple positions on the court.

Bērziņš spent the last two seasons with “Rīgas Zeļļi”. In the previous season, he averaged 11.5 points per game in the Latvian–Estonian Basketball League (LIBL). Previously, he played for clubs such as “Jūrmala”, “Liepāja”, and “VEF Rīga”. He has also represented Latvia at youth levels and earned one cap for the senior national team.

Notably, KR already has another Latvian player on its roster – Linards Jaunzems. The two Latvians could form a partnership on the court in the upcoming season.
