Robbie Savage named Peterborough boss after rapid managerial rise
Former Wales international Robbie Savage has been appointed manager of League One side Peterborough United, less than 836 days after beginning his coaching career at a seventh-tier club.

Robbie Savage, 51, has taken charge of League One club Peterborough United, marking a remarkably swift climb through the football management ranks.
Savage began his managerial career just over two years ago at Macclesfield FC, a seventh-tier Northern Premier League Premier Division side formed after the original Macclesfield Town club was wound up in 2020. His sole season there was highly successful, with the team scoring 109 goals and amassing 109 points to earn promotion.
Despite that success, Savage moved on, joining National League club Forest Green Rovers in July 2025. In his only full season there, he led the Gloucestershire side to the play-offs, where their run ended against Boreham Wood. Since his departure, Forest Green have won four, drawn three and lost four of their 11 matches, leaving them 13th in the table.
Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony said he was excited by the appointment, praising Savage's personality, character and work ethic, and his determination to restore confidence within the squad. Peterborough currently sit second from bottom of League One.
Savage, a former Wales midfielder who played for clubs including Leicester, Derby, Blackburn and Birmingham, will combine his new managerial duties with his existing media work. He will continue co-hosting BBC Radio 5 Live's phone-in show 606, including Sunday's edition starting at 18:30 BST.
