Rockstar Reveals Extended Look at GTA VI, Showcasing New City and Mechanics
Rockstar Games unveiled a 26-minute extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI during an exclusive Netflix livestream, revealing new gameplay mechanics and details about Vice City. The game will launch as a single-player title, with multiplayer features yet to be added.

Rockstar Games held an exclusive livestream event on Netflix titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, presenting roughly 26 minutes of gameplay footage, cutscenes, and mechanics for its long-awaited title. The presentation featured protagonists Lucia and Jason navigating Vice City, the series' fictional take on Miami.
The event came a week after a hacker group called Cyberleek leaked gameplay footage and story details, which Rockstar described as "heartbreaking." A day before the livestream, British magazine Dazed published additional details about the extraordinary level of craftsmanship behind the game's satirical version of Miami.
Visuals and Characters
The footage showcased vibrant cityscapes, nightclubs, and natural landscapes, though there was a noticeable quality gap between cutscenes and actual gameplay segments. Players will control two protagonists, Lucia and Jason, whose relationship can evolve over time based on player choices. Character appearances can shift depending on eating habits and exercise, and a wide range of clothing options was shown, reportedly developed with input from real fashion designers.
Gameplay Improvements
Rockstar said it has invested heavily in non-playable character behavior, including a dedicated Los Angeles studio focused solely on pedestrian interactions. Driving mechanics now include a GPS-style minimap, and gameplay clips demonstrated vehicle and environmental damage during police chases, including shootable tires. The game also promises a wide range of activities, such as boating, kayaking, diving, and jet skiing around a version of the Everglades.
The footage briefly showed players being able to pet a dog. Rockstar acquired the modding platform Cfx in 2023, suggesting future plans for user-generated content, though the presentation did not highlight this feature, since the game is set to launch first as a single-player experience before any multiplayer elements are introduced.
