Latvian forward Rodrigo Ābols will continue his career in Europe. He has signed a three-year deal with Swiss hockey club Bern, leaving the National Hockey League (NHL).
Last season, Ābols played for the Philadelphia Flyers but suffered an injury in January that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. In the NHL, he played 42 games last season, recording ten points (3+7), 22 penalty minutes, and a minus-1 rating.
In his NHL debut season, he spent most of the time in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he notched five points (2+3) in 22 games, with four penalty minutes and a minus-10 rating.
Before joining the Flyers organization, Ābols played four seasons in Sweden – three with Orebro and the 2023/2024 season with Rögle. He has also played in the ECHL, Canadian junior leagues, as well as for Latvian club Riga Dinamo and Russian MHL team Riga.
Bern finished the regular season in ninth place last season and failed to reach the playoffs.
