The NFL, North America's professional American football league, staged its first regular-season game in Paris on Sunday, and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the New Orleans Saints 16-10 at the Stade de France. The Steelers improved to 5-2 for the season, while the Saints fell to 2-5.

Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a four-time league MVP, became third on the NFL's all-time list for touchdown passes. His first-half scoring throw to tight end Darnell Washington took him past Peyton Manning's total of 539. Rodgers completed 19 of 30 passes for 212 yards. Washington's four-yard catch was the first touchdown ever scored in Paris in an NFL game. Earlier in that drive, Rodgers had found DK Metcalf with a 51-yard pass.

Saints quarterback Tyler Shough completed 30 of 38 passes for 278 yards and threw a touchdown to Devaughn Vele, but he was intercepted in the second half by Payton Wilson. That turnover ended a 14-play drive that had used up seven and a half minutes.

Steelers kicker Chris Boswell made all three of his field goals, including a 28-yard kick that produced the first points scored in Paris. Saints kicker Daniel Carlson missed a 52-yard attempt with 10 minutes remaining. He had travelled to Paris separately late in the week because his wife was due to give birth at home.

Unrest before the game

The build-up was overshadowed by unrest in France, where peaceful demonstrations had turned into violence and looting. Fan events were cancelled and security was increased across the city. Even so, 78,488 spectators attended. It was the sixth of nine international NFL games this season, and Paris is one of three first-time hosts in 2026, together with Melbourne and Rio de Janeiro.

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren ran for 101 yards on 18 carries, while Saints running back Alvin Kamara led his team with seven catches for 57 yards.
