Rome's Colosseum lit pink for breast cancer prevention campaign
Rome's Colosseum was illuminated pink on Tuesday evening to launch a national breast cancer prevention campaign, but the monument closed the next day after a young worker died during installation of new lighting.

On Tuesday evening, Rome's Colosseum was lit up in pink to mark the launch of a national breast cancer prevention campaign. Crowds gathered outside the ancient monument as messages about prevention, research and training were projected onto its walls, including the phrase 'prevention is our masterpiece'.
The event opened the seventh edition of the 'La prevenzione è il nostro capolavoro' campaign, organised by Komen Italia together with Italy's Culture Ministry and, for the first time this year, the Health Ministry. The initiative aims to promote breast cancer prevention and early diagnosis ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Monument closed after tragedy
On Wednesday, the Colosseum was closed to visitors after a 22-year-old worker died in a fall while installing a new lighting system at the site. An investigation into the incident has been opened.
