Ronaldo Confirms Last World Cup, Fires Back at Critics
Cristiano Ronaldo stated that this is his final World Cup and responded to ongoing criticism about his role with the Portugal national team during a press conference.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo revealed that the 2026 World Cup will be his last, while also strongly addressing critics who question his contribution to the national team. At 41, the forward emphasized that his commitment has never wavered since his debut at age 18.
"I have always given my heart and soul to the national team to help achieve goals," Ronaldo said. "I will end my international career when I want to, not when you want me to."
He noted that the hardest part at his age is answering those who dislike him. "For more than 20 years, they have tried to destroy me, but they cannot," he added. Ronaldo also stated that winning or not winning the World Cup would not change who he is – he simply wants to enjoy each day.
Initially avoiding a direct answer about his future, Ronaldo later confirmed after a question from an Argentine journalist: "This is my last World Cup, yes, but I hope tomorrow is not my last match in the World Cup."
Ronaldo is Portugal's all-time record holder with 232 caps and 146 goals. He is playing in his sixth World Cup, having appeared in 26 matches and scored 11 goals. His first knockout goal came in this tournament – a penalty against Croatia to make it 1-1, with Portugal eventually winning 2-1. He has started all four matches in the finals, scoring three goals.
