A Midsummer wreath-weaving workshop took place in Ropaži, where participants learned an ancient skill – crafting wreaths without metal wires or threads. Florists reminded that every maiden's wreath should contain 27 different Midsummer herbs (trejdeviņas jāņuzāles). Among the suitable herbs are St. John's wort, raspberry leaves, chamomile, and even the garden weed called 'gārsa' (probably wild parsley). Although many believe weaving a wreath is simple, the workshop proved that even experienced Midsummer celebrants can learn something new from florists each year. The event was held in Ropaži Municipality with the aim of preserving and promoting Latvian Midsummer traditions. Participants worked hands-on with fresh herbs, mastering the correct braiding technique so that the wreath holds together without artificial aids.
