After election defeat, Rosļikovs will stay in Belarus but remains in politics

Having failed to win Saeima seats, "Stabilitātei!" leader Aleksejs Rosļikovs will not currently return to Latvia from Belarus, though he intends to continue his political activity, party board chair Svetlana Čulkova said.

The party "Stabilitātei!" received 1.997% of the vote in the 15th Saeima elections, falling short of entering parliament and losing state funding as a result. Following this outcome, party leader Aleksejs Rosļikovs has no current plans to return to Latvia from Belarus, party board chair Svetlana Čulkova told the LETA news agency.

Čulkova stressed that Rosļikovs does not intend to give up his political career and will continue expressing his views and advocating for the people and issues he has championed so far, even while abroad. She thanked voters who backed the party despite recent pressure directed at the party, at herself, and at Rosļikovs.

Return condition unmet

According to Čulkova, Rosļikovs had said before the vote that he would return to Latvia if he received sufficient voter support and people showed readiness to stand behind him. She said the election result instead shows that society currently favors a different direction for the country's development than the one the party offered — more active defense of residents' interests, lower prices, and greater social security.

The party concluded that a significant part of society is currently not ready to actively push for changes that would improve everyday life and wellbeing. Čulkova called this a democratic decision that must be respected, adding that the party accepts the result while keeping its convictions and pledging to continue its work.

Overall election results

According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission on the October 3 vote, 806,641 voters, or 51.79% of eligible voters, took part. The "Apvienotais saraksts" alliance won the most support with 35.288%, followed by "Latvija pirmajā vietā" with 13.076% and "Suverēnā vara/Apvienība jaunlatvieši" with 11.710%. The National Alliance, "Progresīvie," and "Jaunā Vienotība" also cleared the five-percent threshold. Falling below it were the Greens and Farmers' Union, "Mēs mainām noteikumus," "Latvijas attīstībai," "Stabilitātei!," "Austošā Saule Latvijai," the Gobzems list, "Saskaņas Centrs," and the New Conservative Party. The commission notes the results remain preliminary.
