Southern Kurzeme, in the southwest of Latvia, has 26 parishes. The ones mentioned most often are Bārta, Nīca and Rucava. They are noted for their colourful costumes and resonant songs, and for their ability to honour their traditions and carry them beyond the region's borders.

One of the keepers and promoters of Rucava's traditions is Staņislava Skudiķe. She is also an ambassador for "Liepāja 2027". Apollo.lv writes that the role suits her well. She can talk about the rieze, the lindruks, and why singing in unison is harder than the drone-style singing (burdons) of neighbouring areas.

The examples in the source suggest that in Rucava traditions are not only a memory of the past but a living practice, kept up by specific people.
