Away from Riga and other major cities, Latvia has many scenic but little-known walking trails that become especially beautiful in autumn. This was discussed on Latvian Radio's program "Kā labāk dzīvot" by tourism expert, biologist and nature photographer Juris Smaļinskis, a representative of the "Lauku ceļotājs" (Rural Traveler) association, along with environmental scientist and traveler Gatis Pavils.

The Mežtaki trail near the Estonian border

One of the recommendations was the section of the Mežtaki trail running from Ape to the border with Estonia, which the experts described as particularly beautiful during golden autumn. This route lies off the usual tourist paths and offers a chance to enjoy autumn nature in quiet surroundings, far from the bustle of larger towns.

Ideas for unusual leisure activities

The program's guests also shared ideas for unconventional recreation in Latvia connected to crabs and shrimp. The experts emphasized that it is worth seeking out lesser-known places and experiences in Latvia that offer a fresh perspective on leisure, rather than sticking only to already well-known tourist attractions.

The experts encouraged residents and travelers to use the autumn season to discover Latvia's nature trails and less popular recreation spots, which offer both scenically rich experiences and a chance to try something new instead of the usual leisure options.
