Rūdolfs Ate Revives Rucava Pottery Traditions
20-year-old ceramist Rūdolfs Ate has revived a 70-year-old Rucava pottery tradition, using ancient techniques and color palette.

Rūdolfs Ate, a 20-year-old native of Rucava, has revived the region's pottery traditions that had not been practiced for 70 years. He built a kiln at his family home in Ketverči and produces cups, pots, and plates, mainly in green, yellow, and brown – colors typical for vessels made in this area in the mid-19th and early 20th centuries. Ate emphasizes that his works are not copies but his personal interpretation of the theme. He received a creative work grant from the State Culture Capital Foundation for his research. His interest in the ancient tradition arose while studying ceramics at the Liepāja Music, Art and Design Secondary School.
