In an interview on Latvian Radio's program "Krustpunktā" on July 23, State Police chief Armands Ruks announced that lawyer Ginta Vilcāne most likely misled the police, media, and the public by claiming she was attacked by "Indian or Pakistani migrants."

Ruks said that police had proven from the first day that the incident did not occur. The criminal case regarding this event has been terminated. However, Vilcāne has 10 days to appeal the decision to the prosecutor's office, which has already been involved in the case.

Vilcāne herself admitted in a telephone conversation with Apollo.lv that she will appeal the decision as soon as she can review it. Earlier, on June 30, during a conversation with Apollo.lv, several inconsistencies and oddities emerged in her account of what happened in the square near the University of Latvia.
