Romania Summons Russian Ambassador, Expels Embassy Staffer After Shooting Down Three Drones
Romania has summoned Russia's ambassador and expelled an embassy employee after Romanian forces shot down three drones that illegally entered the country's airspace.
Romania's Foreign Ministry summoned Russia's ambassador after Romanian armed forces shot down three drones that entered the country's territory without authorization between July 24 and 26. During the meeting, the ministry showed the ambassador drone fragments it said were Russian-made. The ministry expressed firm protest against these illegal and irresponsible actions and emphasized the clear attribution of responsibility. It also stated that it is absolutely inadmissible and intolerable for the Russian Federation to continue violating Romania's airspace, which also constitutes NATO and European Union airspace. Additionally, the ministry informed the ambassador that it had declared a staff member of Russia's embassy in Bucharest persona non grata, giving him five days to leave Romania.
