Romania scrambles helicopter after detecting aerial target near Ukrainian border
Romania's Defence Ministry detected an unidentified aerial target near its border with Ukraine on Wednesday and sent up a helicopter to monitor the situation as Russia carried out a drone attack on Ukraine's Odesa region.
Romania's Ministry of National Defence said on August 26 that its radar surveillance system detected an aerial target about eight kilometers north of the Ukrainian town of Vylkove in the Odesa region, close to the border with Romania.
To monitor the situation, Romania scrambled an IAR-330 PUMA SOCAT helicopter. The ministry noted the target was spotted at the same time Ukraine's air force reported a Russian drone attack on the Odesa region.
Romania's National Military Command Center notified the country's General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which activated public alert measures in the northern and eastern parts of the border county of Tulcea at 13:15.

Also on August 26, a fragment of an unidentified drone was found on a beach at the Olimp resort in Romania's Constanța county. The same day, drone debris was discovered on several beaches in Bulgaria.
The incidents underscore how Russian strikes near Ukraine's border areas continue to pose risks for neighboring countries along the Black Sea coast.
