Ryanair to announce future plans for operations in Latvia

Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will hold a press conference next week, on September 17, to present its future plans for the Latvian market. The event will take place at 11:30 at the Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga, with the airline's chief commercial officer, Jason McGuinness, in attendance.

Previous conference brought cuts

A similar press conference was held last October, when Ryanair announced the cancellation of several routes to and from Latvia along with reduced flight frequency on remaining ones. At the time, the company attributed the decision to a significant increase in airport fees.

Airport's explanation

Following that announcement, Riga Airport explained the changes by pointing to seasonal patterns in the industry — every year in late October, the winter season begins, during which passenger numbers across the Baltic states typically decline. According to the airport, this seasonal shift regularly prompts airlines to revise their route networks, dropping less profitable destinations in favor of routes with stronger demand.

It remains unclear whether the upcoming announcement will bring positive or negative news for Ryanair's continued presence in Latvia. Given last year's precedent, when a similar event resulted in route reductions, the upcoming conference is being watched with some caution.
