US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that he no longer wants to be friends with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, criticizing her popularity among Italian voters.

The post came after Meloni had called Trump's claim that she asked for a joint photo at the G7 summit a fabrication. Trump responded that it was Meloni who repeatedly requested a photo together.

Trump also accused Italy of not allowing the US to use its airfields during the military operation against Iran. Meloni countered that the use of military bases is governed by agreements that Italy has always respected, and emphasized that Italy is a sovereign state.

The Prime Minister further stated that her popularity is none of Trump's concern and advised him to focus on his own popularity. Meanwhile, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani canceled a planned visit to the United States.
