Sabres sign eight-year extension with young forward Östlund
NHL club Buffalo Sabres have agreed an eight-year, $52.8 million contract extension with their 22-year-old center, set to take effect for the 2027/2028 season.
The Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League (NHL) have agreed to a new eight-year contract with their 22-year-old center forward, worth a total of $52.8 million, or roughly €45.7 million, according to the NHL. The new deal will take effect starting the 2027/2028 season, as the player is currently in the final year of his previous three-year contract.
Career so far
The forward was selected 16th overall in the 2022 draft. Over two seasons he has played 60 NHL regular-season games, recording 27 points — 11 goals and 16 assists. In three Stanley Cup playoff appearances he added two points, one goal and one assist.
He has averaged 13 minutes and 58 seconds of ice time per game, and his plus-minus rating at even strength ranked fourth highest among all rookie forwards in the NHL.
Coach's praise
Head coach Lindy Ruff spoke highly of the young player back in April, telling the team's website that he is essentially a coach's dream, since he is one of those players who barely needs coaching at all.
Upcoming season
The Sabres begin training camp this week. Their first preseason game is scheduled for September 21 against the Pittsburgh Penguins, whose goaltending includes Latvian netminder Artūrs Šilovs. The regular season will open on October 1 with a road game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
