The Latvian parliament, the Saeima, passed changes to the Child Rights Protection Law on June 18. The new regulation forbids adults who hold a position of authority over young people from engaging in intimate relationships with them. This applies to individuals aged 16 to 18. The term 'position of authority' covers situations where the adult has power or influence over the youth, such as in education, upbringing, or supervision. The amendments will come into force after publication in the official gazette. The exact effective date has not yet been announced.
