Saeima approves: no refund for tickets if event canceled due to airspace threat
The Latvian Parliament has passed amendments in the final reading, allowing event organizers to keep ticket money if an event is canceled or interrupted due to an airspace threat. The changes also impose new duties and restrictions on organizers.
Today, the Latvian Saeima in its final reading supported amendments to the law regarding event management during airspace threats. Under the new rules, if a declared airspace threat leads to the cancellation or interruption of an event, organizers are not obliged to refund attendees for purchased tickets.
The amendments also introduce new responsibilities for event organizers. They are now required to implement appropriate security measures according to the situation and to provide timely information to attendees. The exact scope of these duties and restrictions will be specified in additional regulations.
The changes were developed to address modern security challenges, including potential airspace threats that may arise from military or other causes. Previously, organizers had to refund tickets in such cases, but the law now exempts them from this requirement.
The Saeima vote was the final reading, and the amendments will come into force after their official promulgation. The exact effective date has not yet been announced, but it is expected to occur in the near future.
