Saeima backs moving MPs' expense compensation rules into the Remuneration Law
Latvia's Saeima approved in the first reading amendments that would move the rules on MPs' expense compensation from its Rules of Procedure to the Remuneration Law. Compensation amounts and conditions stay unchanged.

The Saeima, Latvia's parliament, on Thursday, 15 October, supported in the first reading amendments that would delete the provision on compensation for lawmakers' expenses from the Saeima Rules of Procedure, the document setting out how parliament operates. Going forward, these compensations are to be governed by the Remuneration Law.
The Saeima also declared the amendments urgent.
What it means for MPs
The amendments do not change the amounts of the compensation or the conditions under which it is granted. Only the legal act containing the rules would change.
The current arrangement will remain in force until the new regulation is adopted.
The source notes that opinions differ on the future arrangement, but the text provided does not detail what views were expressed.
