Saeima salary ranking for August: Daiga Mieriņa tops list with over €7,600
Published data show Saeima Speaker Daiga Mieriņa earned the highest pay among lawmakers in August 2026, at €7,645.85, followed by Agita Zariņa-Stūre and Jānis Grasbergs.
Newly published figures on Saeima lawmakers' pay for August 2026 show that Speaker Daiga Mieriņa (ZZS) received the highest amount — €7,645.85. Agita Zariņa-Stūre (JV) ranked second with €6,269.95, while Jānis Grasbergs (NA) placed third at €5,602.70.
Other top earners
Also among the highest-paid lawmakers in August were Raivis Dzintars (NA) with €5,280.30, Artūrs Butāns (NA) with €5,216.79, and Linda Matisone (AS) with €5,216.55. Several other MPs earned more than €5,000, including Augusts Brigmanis (ZZS), Antoņina Ņenaševa (P), Aiva Vīksna (AS) and Jānis Vucāns (ZZS). Close to the €5,000 mark were Andrejs Judins (JV), Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica (JV) and Agnese Krasta (JV). More than €4,800 was paid to Gunārs Kūtris (ZZS), Raimonds Bergmanis (AS), Česlavs Batņa (AS) and Juris Viļums (AS).
How lawmaker pay is set
Saeima members are paid from the state budget, with compensation regulated by the law on remuneration of officials and employees of state and municipal institutions. Salaries are automatically reviewed each year in line with changes in the national average wage and inflation. MPs can receive additional pay for holding positions in the Saeima Presidium, parliamentary factions, committees or subcommittees.
In 2026, a lawmaker's base monthly salary before taxes is €4,330. MPs do not receive extra pay for attending sittings, committee meetings, delegations or parliamentary groups, nor do they receive bonuses.
Lawmakers are reimbursed for expenses tied to carrying out their duties, including housing rental and transport costs. The compensation system is designed to put MPs elected from more distant regions on equal footing with those living in Riga — the farther from the capital a lawmaker lives, the higher the permitted compensation.
