Saeima committee backs keeping LTV and Latvijas Radio brands
The Saeima's Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee has backed preserving the historic brands of Latvian Television and Latvijas Radio. A ban on merging their news services will be advanced in a separate bill.

The Human Rights and Public Affairs Committee of the Saeima, Latvia's parliament, on Wednesday, 21 October, supported keeping the historic brands of Latvian Television (LTV) and Latvian Radio (Latvijas Radio, LR). Both are Latvia's public broadcasters, and the decision concerns their names and identity.
The committee also decided to push, in a separate bill, a provision stating that the news services of LTV and Latvian Radio cannot be merged. The question of the news services will therefore be handled apart from the decision on the brands.
The available information does not say when the committee's proposals might come up for consideration in the Saeima.
