Latvia to see up to 30°C midweek before cooldown
Temperatures in Latvia are set to reach 30°C in the middle of the week, but a cooler air mass will bring temperatures down to no higher than 23°C during the weekend.
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has issued a forecast showing a warm and mostly dry midweek, followed by noticeably cooler conditions from Friday onwards.
On Wednesday, 5 August, the night will bring partly clear skies, while cloud cover will increase through the day. No rain is expected. Winds will be light, and local fog may form overnight. Temperatures will drop to +12…+17°C at night, with some spots in northern Kurzeme and northern Vidzeme falling to around +10°C. Daytime highs will reach +25…+30°C, though parts of the Kurzeme coast will stay cooler at +23…+24°C.
Thursday will bring variable cloudiness. In the morning, isolated showers are possible in western and eastern areas, while in the afternoon brief rain may develop locally in the east, along with a chance of thunderstorms. Winds will be light, turning moderate from the southwest and west near the coast. Overnight lows will be +17…+21°C, and daytime highs will again be +25…+30°C, except in western regions and many coastal areas where it will be +20…+25°C.
Friday will mark a shift. Rain is expected at night in the southeast, with thunderstorms possible. During the day, most of the country will see light precipitation. Winds will be light to moderate from the southwest and west, becoming gusty from morning in western and central parts. Nighttime temperatures will fall to +14…+18°C, and daytime maximums will be +18…+23°C.
A cooler air mass will start flowing into Latvia on Friday, so the weekend will feel noticeably fresher. Skies will often be cloudy, but there will be sunny spells from time to time, and rain may affect some areas. Highs will stay between +18…+23°C. Similar conditions are expected at the beginning of the following week.
