Signature collection begins for safer environment near Imanta and Babīte stations
An initiative has been published on ManaBalss.lv calling for safety improvements at Imanta railway station, after four people, including two minors, were fatally hit by trains between Imanta and Babīte stations since autumn 2025.
A public initiative has been submitted on the ManaBalss.lv platform urging better safety measures at Imanta railway station and its surroundings. The signature collection was launched following several fatalities on the tracks.
According to Latvian Radio, since autumn 2025, four people have been killed by trains on the section between Imanta and Babīte stations for various reasons, two of whom were underage girls.
The author of the initiative believes the root cause lies in the railway infrastructure – a lack of proper fencing and safe crossings. The proposal calls for assessing the possibility of installing fences, pedestrian tunnels, or other solutions to prevent further tragedies.
The signature collection will continue until the required number of signatures is gathered for the initiative to be reviewed by the responsible authorities.
