According to ESPN insider Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings have waived DeMar DeRozan, who had one year remaining on his contract. The team and player worked together to explore trade options, but when none materialized, DeRozan will become one of the top free agents on the market and will be able to choose his next team.

Last season, DeRozan averaged 18.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while shooting 49.7% from the field. He is a six-time NBA All-Star (most recently in 2023) and a three-time All-NBA selection.

DeRozan joined the Kings in 2024, but over two seasons the team failed to make the playoffs. In the most recent season, Sacramento won just 22 games, the fifth-worst record in the league.

Charania reports that several NBA title contenders are expected to show interest in DeRozan, making him one of the most sought-after players in free agency.
