Mohamed Salah's transfer to Turkish club Trabzonspor has come as a surprise to many football observers. The 34-year-old Egyptian forward spent nine impressive seasons with England's Premier League side Liverpool.

Choosing among several options

Salah reportedly had multiple paths available for continuing his career. He could have signed a lucrative contract with a Saudi Arabian club, following the trend of top players moving to the Gulf region in recent years. A move to a US league was also reportedly on the table. Instead, the Egyptian star chose to continue his career in Turkey, joining Trabzonspor.

The decision is seen as unexpected, since most players at this stage of their careers tend to prioritize either bigger financial offers or a less demanding league outside Europe's top-flight football.
