Tet opens new DC7 data center in Salaspils

Latvian telecom operator Tet has officially opened a new data center, DC7, in Salaspils, which has received Tier III Design and Facility certification from the Uptime Institute — one of the highest international standards for security and operational continuity in the industry. The facility is also testing drone detection systems intended to reduce future risks of espionage and sabotage.

DC7 is described as Tet's most technologically advanced data center in Latvia, connected to the country's largest optical network hubs as well as international internet exchange points across Europe. This allows both government and business clients to store data within Latvia while maintaining the option to build backup infrastructure elsewhere in Europe.

Investment and significance

First-stage investment in the DC7 project exceeds 10 million euros, while total construction investment will surpass 30 million euros. Tet CEO and Management Board Chairman Uldis Tatarčuks said strong client interest in deploying IT infrastructure at DC7 has already prompted planning for a second construction phase.

Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs attended the opening ceremony, stressing that Latvia needs to become a speed leader in artificial intelligence adoption and noting that heat generated by the center will be used to lower heating costs for Salaspils residents. Economy Minister Viktors Valainis highlighted the center's export potential, with more than 60% of its services expected to be delivered to foreign markets.

Technical details

With DC7's launch, Tet has become the only data center service provider in Latvia operating two fully Tier III-certified facilities — DC7 and Dattum. Design and construction were carried out by Citrus Solutions, part of the Tet group. The facility features 112 racks, three levels of physical security, and an N+1 redundancy principle, operating around the clock.

DC7 employs energy-efficient technologies, including liquid cooling solutions, and achieves a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2 — considered a very high efficiency level in the data center industry.
