Swimming allowed again in Lake Saldus
The Health Inspectorate has lifted its recommendation against swimming in Lake Saldus, as follow-up water samples taken on 27 July show reduced E. coli contamination and microbiological parameters are within the norm.
Swimming is allowed again in Lake Saldus after the Health Inspectorate withdrew its previous recommendation not to swim there. The decision follows repeated testing of water samples collected on 27 July, which showed that contamination with Escherichia coli (E. coli) has decreased.
According to the inspectorate, the microbiological indicators now meet the requirements for bathing water. Earlier, officials had advised people to avoid swimming in the lake because of elevated E. coli levels. The latest tests indicate that the situation has improved and the restrictions have been lifted.
The Health Inspectorate continues to monitor bathing water quality across the country. The public is encouraged to check official updates regarding swimming safety. At present, swimming in Lake Saldus is allowed, though the situation may be reassessed based on future sample results.
