Happy Ending: Two People Lost in Forest Rescued in Saldus Municipality; Firefighters Also Handle Gas Fire and Tractor Rescue
On Wednesday evening, two people who got lost in a forest in Saldus municipality were successfully rescued. Firefighters used mobile phone contact and sound signals from a fire engine to guide them out within about an hour.
The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) in Latvia received a call at 5:08 PM on Wednesday to Zvārde Parish in Saldus municipality, where two people had become lost in a forest. Rescuers communicated with the lost individuals via mobile phone and used the sound signals from a fire engine to indicate the correct direction to exit the forest. After approximately one hour, the operation concluded successfully, and the people were brought to safety.
On Thursday morning, VUGD responded to a call in Daugmale Parish, Ķekava municipality, where a gas pipe in a living container had caught fire. The fire covered an area of less than one square meter and resulted in one person being injured. The flames were extinguished before firefighters arrived, and the service inspected the site.
Additionally, on Wednesday, VUGD received a call to Kazdanga Parish in Dienvidkurzeme municipality, where firefighters rescued a person from a tractor that had become stuck in a swampy area. The individual was freed from the vehicle.
These incidents highlight the variety of situations VUGD responds to daily.
