Samsung Galaxy A27 5G: Mild upgrades and a $50 price increase

Samsung has revealed its latest budget-friendly A-series phone, the Galaxy A27 5G. The main upgrade touted by the company is a new Infinity-O display with a hole-punch cutout for the 12MP front camera, replacing the notch found on the Galaxy A26. The display remains a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Samsung claims the hole-punch design, combined with slimmer and more balanced bezels, adds screen space and reduces distractions.

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, a 5MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. The device comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage, expandable via microSD up to 2TB. Battery capacity stays at 5000mAh with support for 25W fast charging.

Under the hood, the Galaxy A27 5G is powered by a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset, which Samsung says provides improved responsiveness and GPU performance over the A26. However, the water and dust resistance rating has been downgraded to IP64, meaning it can handle splashes but not submersion, compared to the IP67 rating of its predecessor.

On the software side, AI features include multi-object recognition in Circle to Search and real-time translation into 22 languages for transcriptions in the Voice Recorder app. Users can choose from AI assistants like Gemini and Perplexity (Bixby is also still available).

Samsung promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, as well as six years of security updates from the global launch date.

The Galaxy A27 5G will be available in the US starting July 14, and in other markets from July 3. The starting price is $350, a $50 increase over the A26.
