Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's video stabilization put to the test in a BMW M4 drift at Biķernieki
Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra's new Super Steady video stabilization was tested under extreme conditions during a BMW M4 Competition drift session at the Biķernieki race track. The test showed the phone could maintain a steady, level image despite sharp acceleration and tight turns.
The video stabilization capabilities of Samsung's new Galaxy S26 series smartphone were put through an unusual trial — filming from inside a car drifting around the Biķernieki race track.
During the test, a BMW M4 Competition was driven under extreme conditions, with the passenger relying on a five-point safety harness, a racing seat and a roll cage to stay in place. It was in this environment that the Galaxy S26 Ultra's new Super Steady feature was tested against sharp acceleration, lateral forces, vibration and tight cornering.
How the stabilization works
The Super Steady mode uses the phone's gyroscope and accelerometer sensors to detect motion in real time, allowing the software to compensate for shaking and keep the frame steady with a correct horizon line. The S26 series also introduces a horizontal lock feature, which keeps the image level even when the phone itself is significantly tilted while filming.
Comparison with another camera
To confirm that the results were not achieved with the help of additional stabilization equipment, the test was carried out without any external stabilizing devices. Footage was recorded in parallel using another brand's onboard track camera, allowing a direct comparison of both devices' performance under identical conditions.
The results were compiled into a video, letting viewers judge for themselves how well the smartphone's software compensates for track vibrations and rapid movements in an extreme driving scenario.
