Samsung's Discontinued Galaxy Z TriFold Still Desired
Despite its brief availability and high price, the Galaxy Z TriFold remains a coveted device for its tablet-like 10-inch display that folds into a pocket-sized form, according to a tech enthusiast.
At Samsung's summer Unpacked event in 2026, the company unveiled three new foldable phones: the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, a redesigned Galaxy Z Fold 8, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The base Z Fold 8 was praised for its less squarish 7.6-inch main screen, better suited for reading and web browsing. However, some still yearn for the Galaxy Z TriFold, which was available in the US starting January 30, 2026, after a limited launch in South Korea, before production ended in March.
The TriFold unfolded into a near-tablet-sized 10-inch display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, compared to the almost-square 10:9 screen of the Fold 8 Ultra. Samsung described it as a "flagship showcase" rather than a best-seller. It launched at $2,900, and with rising RAM prices, new foldables have become even more expensive. A potential TriFold 2 would likely cost significantly more.
However, the device had drawbacks. Durability concerns included dust ingress and expensive screen repairs—some early adopters faced $700 bills for display replacements. Availability was limited, and importing added costs.
