Samsung's new My FanCam feature turns group videos into personalized tracking shots after recording

Samsung has introduced a new Galaxy AI feature called My FanCam that lets users turn a wide group video into a tighter, tracking shot centered on one person — after the footage has already been recorded. Unlike features that adjust framing while filming, My FanCam works on existing video, so there's nothing users need to enable beforehand.

How it works

The tool is built into Samsung's Gallery editing tools. Users open a recorded video containing the person they want to follow, tap the Galaxy AI icon, and select My FanCam. Galaxy AI identifies the people in the clip, letting the user choose a subject to track and an aspect ratio for the new video — a vertical crop for portrait-style platforms, or a wider frame to preserve more of the original scene. Tapping "Follow" generates the reframed clip.

Filming tips

Samsung describes My FanCam as effectively moving a smaller frame around inside footage that's already been captured, so wider original shots — such as a school performance, a soccer game or a group dance — give the AI more room to work with. If the original recording is too tight, or the subject moves outside the frame, the feature has nothing left to draw on, since it cannot recreate parts of a scene that were never filmed. Samsung also notes the feature won't work if it can't identify a subject to track, and it does not guarantee tracking accuracy.

Availability

My FanCam is currently demonstrated on the Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, both running One UI 9. While One UI 9 is rolling out to additional Galaxy devices, including the Galaxy Z Flip8, Samsung notes that individual Galaxy AI features, including My FanCam, may vary depending on device, language and region.
