San Diego Comic-Con Unveils Final Trailers for 'Coyote vs. Acme' and 'Resident Evil'

San Diego Comic-Con saw the release of new trailers for two anticipated films. 'Coyote vs. Acme' hits theaters on August 28, 2026, but the spotlight was on the reboot of the 'Resident Evil' franchise.
The 'Resident Evil' film series has grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide since its first installment in 2002, but a previous reboot attempt failed. Sony Pictures is now tapping Zach Cregger—who wrote, produced, and directed last year's Oscar-winning horror hit 'Weapons'—for the project. The full trailer dropped at SDCC, following a teaser shown at CinemaCon in April.
According to the official logline, 'Resident Evil' follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who finds himself in a nonstop race for survival as one fateful night collapses into chaos. Joining Abrams in the main cast are Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson.
Cregger has stated that this film is not a direct game adaptation but an original story with original characters set in the same universe. His vision is closer to 'Evil Dead II' in tone but remains true to the spirit of the games.
The trailer establishes Bryan as a likable everyman working as a medical delivery driver, transporting transplant organs. On a cold winter night with heavy snow, he agrees to an urgent delivery outside the zone to Raccoon City General for double pay. While driving, he hits a woman on the road—a zombie, though he doesn't yet know it. He soon frantically searches for ammo in a nearby house where something terrible has happened, and the town is overrun. As Carl says, 'Everything that has happened in this town transpired in a matter of hours.'
'Resident Evil' opens in theaters on September 18, 2026.
