Sandu: Russian Drone Crashed in Moldova Near Homes and Energy Facility
Moldovan President Maia Sandu said a Russian Geran-type strike drone violated Moldova's airspace on 23 October and crashed near homes and an energy facility. In response, the country expelled a Russian embassy staff member.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu has said that a Russian Geran-type strike drone entered the country's airspace on 23 October and crashed near homes and an energy facility. Moldova is an Eastern European country bordering Ukraine, where Russia's war continues. The incident shows that the conflict also endangers people in the neighbouring state.
In a post on X, Sandu stressed that Russia's war continues to threaten Moldovans. She said the country condemns this latest dangerous act. In response, Moldova declared a Russian embassy staff member persona non grata, meaning an unwelcome person who must leave the country.
Where the drone fell
Drone wreckage was found on 23 October in the village of Chiștelnița, about 100 metres from a residential building. Early reports indicated that no one was injured.
An earlier case
This is not the first such incident recently. On 16 October, Moldovan police found the wreckage of a drone that had crashed and exploded in a field between the villages of Codrenii Noi and Scăieni in the Dondușeni district.
The information about Sandu's statement was published by European Pravda, citing the president's post on X.
