Humanoid robots took part in a combat event in Shanghai on Saturday, the first stop of the newly launched Ultimate Robot Knock-out Legend (URKL) tour, which is set to travel to multiple Chinese cities.
Inside the ring, the robots moved around autonomously, reading their opponents' posture and movements before selecting their own responses in real time, without direct human control during the exchanges.
Robot keeps fighting despite damage
In one notable bout, a robot identified as T800 continued competing even after sustaining severe damage to its head and neck.
Organisers and observers point to the event as a significant demonstration of humanoid robots' ability to operate autonomously in dynamic, high-contact settings. This kind of real-time physical adaptability is considered one of the central challenges in embodied AI, the field focused on machines that perceive and react to the physical world rather than operating purely in digital environments.
