Today, July 15, the annual jazz festival 'Saulkrasti Jazz' starts in Saulkrasti, lasting until July 18. This year's edition is dedicated to the art of rhythm, with performers from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, France, England, and the United States taking the stage across four venues. A special emphasis is placed on drummers, who will be highlighted in concerts and competitions.
The festival program includes jazz masterclasses and the Baltic Drummers' League, where rhythm masters from the three Baltic countries compete for the title of best drummer. Two central events are jazz evenings at the Saulkrasti open-air stage. Additionally, several free concerts will be held throughout the town.
Already today, July 15, at 3 PM in Saules Square, the ensemble from Sigulda Art School's Contemporary Rhythm Music Department, led by Anrija Grinberga and Inese Bērziņa, will perform, along with an ensemble from Ventspils Music High School led by Anna Vibes. At 5 PM on the seaside near the Elvi store on Ainaži Street, the group 'Jam Orchestra' will take the stage.
A traditional part of the festival is the young jazz musicians' masterclass camp, running from July 13 to July 18. 'Saulkrasti Jazz' is an event of national importance and the oldest jazz festival in Latvia, held annually in July since 1997.
