Over the weekend of August 15–16, Saulkrasti municipality hosted 'Home Café Days,' during which ten home-based cafés welcomed visitors. Guests were invited to try homemade dishes, meet the hosts, and discover places in the municipality they may never have seen before.

A wide variety of offerings

The range was broad — from oven-baked pizzas and cakes at Auguste's Inspiration Garden to hearty soup, sandwiches made with home-raised beef, and berry desserts at 'Piekalniņa' in Sēja parish. The 'Zaļā Nora' association let visitors combine a meal with exploring a countryside farmstead, feeding animals and birds, and taking pony or horse rides, while 'Summer in the Countryside – Market in Loja' created a rural festival atmosphere with local producers' and craftsmen's goods and a display of farm machinery.

Guests were also welcomed at the holiday home of farm 'Urgas' in Sēja parish, set amid meadows and pastures, and at the artists' house 'Rūķīši' in Murjāņi, which this year marked its 60th anniversary and shared stories tied to Latvian theatre and art history. 'Punča prieks' hosted guests for a third consecutive year, with the owner this time also offering her own pastries after earning a confectioner's qualification in spring.

At 'Hortensia Flower Magic' in the Rullis family's garden, visitors could enjoy plov cooked over an open fire, homemade pastries and apple bread. Eat [at] ForRest Glamp Saulkrasti offered a chef-curated menu featuring forest ingredients and seasonal produce, while 'Cozy Crown' in Saulkrasti welcomed guests with home-cooked food in a relaxed setting.

The Saulkrasti municipality thanked all ten home café hosts for their effort and hospitality, as well as everyone who visited over the weekend to taste, explore and rediscover the municipality.
