Two-car crash near Riga leaves one injured, second driver flees scene
A serious two-car collision occurred in Sauriešos, near Riga, on Thursday, injuring one driver while the other fled before police arrived. Authorities are investigating whether alcohol was involved.

A severe crash between a Mitsubishi and an Audi took place on Thursday evening in Sauriešos, on Institūta Street near its junction with Granīta Street. The impact was so forceful that both vehicles sustained damage likely beyond repair.
The Mitsubishi driver was injured and taken to a medical facility. Before being transported, he underwent an alcohol test that showed a reading of 0.4 per mille.
The Audi driver, meanwhile, left the scene before authorities arrived. State Police spokesperson Līna Bagdone confirmed this to TV3's programme "Degpunktā," adding that police are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
Possible signs of alcohol use
According to the TV3 programme, the abandoned Audi's windshield was found covered in vomit, which could indicate the driver may have been intoxicated before the collision. However, it cannot be ruled out that the vomiting was caused by the force of the impact itself.
The exact circumstances of the crash have not yet been established. Based on the pattern of damage to the vehicles, investigators believe the cars may have been travelling toward each other, with the strongest impact striking the driver's side of both vehicles.
