Serious crash in Saurieši: one driver hospitalized, other flees scene
A severe two-car collision occurred in Saurieši, Ropaži municipality, leaving one driver hospitalized while the other fled the scene. Police are searching for the missing driver, suspected of being intoxicated.
A powerful collision between a Mitsubishi and an Audi occurred shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Institūta and Granīta streets in Saurieši, Ropaži municipality, according to the show "Degpunktā".
The impact was so severe that both vehicles sustained irreparable damage.
One driver flees
After the crash, the Audi driver left the scene without waiting for emergency services or police. Officers suspect this driver may have been intoxicated at the time of the accident — a suspicion partly supported by vomit found on the car's windshield. However, police also note an alternative explanation: the substance could have resulted from a forceful head impact against the windshield during the crash.
Second driver hospitalized
The Mitsubishi driver suffered serious injuries and was taken to a medical facility. Before receiving medical assistance, he underwent a breathalyzer test, which showed a blood alcohol level of 0.4 per mille.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the crash and are searching for the Audi driver who fled the scene.
