SDCC unveils first trailers for 'Blade Runner 2099', 'Rings of Power' Season 3, 'Lanterns', and 'Spaceballs' sequel

San Diego Comic-Con brought major announcements for upcoming TV series and a film sequel. Prime Video debuted the first teaser for its ten-episode series 'Blade Runner 2099', set 50 years after 'Blade Runner 2049'. Los Angeles has been reborn, but not by humanity. The story follows Cora (Hunter Schafer), a fugitive who becomes a Blade Runner and must partner with a dying Replicant named Olwen (Michelle Yeoh). The series premieres on November 25, 2026.

'Rings of Power' Season 3

A teaser for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' Season 3 was also shown, revealing Sauron (Charlie Vickers) forging the One Ring. The synopsis states that five years have passed since the fall of Eregion, with Sauron's armies conquering most of Middle-earth. Only a few pockets of resistance remain: Khazad-dûm, Lindon, and Rivendell. New characters include Celeborn (Jamie Campbell Bower), Khamul (Zubin Varla), Thrain (Eddie Marsan), Anarion (Andrew Richardson), and an Orc named Marnukh (Adam Young). Simon Pegg voices the Balrog. Season 3 debuts on November 11, 2026.

'Lanterns'

HBO Max released a full trailer for 'Lanterns', a DC Universe series described as a sci-fi 'True Detective'. The show follows new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) and veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) as they investigate a murder in the American heartland across two timelines: 2016 and 2026. The trailer highlights shape-shifting Manhunters and Sinestro (Ulrich Thomsen). Nathan Fillion reprises his role as Guy Gardner. The series premieres on August 18, 2026.

'Spaceballs: The New One'

Amazon MGM Studios presented a panel for the long-awaited sequel to Mel Brooks' 1987 cult classic. Josh Gad co-wrote the script and pitched the idea. The plot: Dark Helmet has returned, and the galaxy is threatened. Lone Starr (Bill Pullman) is in hiding, Queen Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) rules, and their son Prince Starburst (Lewis Pullman) seeks help with advisor Destiny (Keke Palmer). Brooks returns as Yogurt via motion capture. Other returning actors include Rick Moranis. The film hits theaters on April 23, 2027.
