Police in Sheffield have charged four adults with murder after a newborn baby girl died from stab wounds. Two men and two women are due to appear in court on Wednesday, facing charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice for allegedly taking steps to conceal the infant's death.

A 15-year-old girl, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, has also been charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the case.

How the case unfolded

Officers were called to the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday morning following reports of concern for an infant's safety. During a search of a property on Holywell Heights, police discovered the baby's body.

A forensic postmortem examination subsequently confirmed that the baby died as a result of stab wounds.

Those charged

On Tuesday evening, police charged Andrea Skopova, 20, Peter Horvath, 19, Peter Horvath, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, with murder. All five defendants, including the teenage girl, are currently in custody and are scheduled to appear before Sheffield magistrates' court on Wednesday.

Two further women, aged 26 and 37, who were earlier arrested on suspicion of murder, have not been charged and remain on bail while the investigation continues.
