Latvian tennis player Darja Semenistaja, partnering with Kazakhstan's Zhibek Kulambayeva, won her first-round doubles match at the Hamburg WTA 250 tournament on Thursday.

Latvian tennis star Darja Semenistaja achieved a successful start in the doubles competition at the Hamburg WTA 250 tournament on Thursday. Playing alongside Kazakhstan's Zhibek Kulambayeva, she defeated the German duo of Noma Akuga and Tamara Korpatsch with a straight-set score of 6-3, 6-3. The victory secured the pair a spot in the quarterfinals.
For the win, Semenistaja earned 54 WTA doubles ranking points. In the next round, she and Kulambayeva will face the second-seeded team—Czech players Jesika Malečková and Miriam Škoch.
In singles action, Semenistaja, ranked 109th in the WTA singles rankings, had already exited the tournament after a first-round loss. She fell 6-3, 3-6, 2-6 to eighth seed Sinja Kraus of Austria (WTA 80th), earning just one ranking point.
The Hamburg tournament is being played on clay courts and will conclude on Sunday.
