Latvian tennis player Diāna Semeņistaja's bid to reach the Wimbledon main draw ended in disappointment on Sunday as she suffered a defeat in the final qualifying round. She lost 4-6, 2-6 to Russian Anastasia Gasanova.

Semeņistaja, ranked 102nd in the world, was seeded sixth in qualifying. Despite the loss, she earned 30 ranking points for winning two qualifying rounds.

Earlier, the Latvian had secured convincing victories. In the first round, she defeated Czech Anna Siskova (WTA 231.) 7-6 (7:2), 1-6, 7-5, and in the second round she beat Japan's Nao Hibino (WTA 247.) 6-4, 1-6, 6-2. Three qualifying wins were needed to enter the main draw.

Latvia's top player Alona Ostapenko already has a guaranteed spot in the main draw without qualifying. The Wimbledon main draw on grass courts will begin on Monday.
